Database Administrator: Microsoft SQL/Oracle

Description of Position/Duties:

  • 24/7 On Call Support for after business hours: on call is based on a weekly rotating schedule
  • Monitor/Troubleshoot Microsoft SQL / Oracle Database performance and scalability issues
  • Perform database upgrades and migrations
  • Implement Back-up/Recovery procedures for new and existing environments
  • Periodically perform backup/recovery dry run to validate the backup/recover procedures
  • Develop Database administration automation scripts
  • Develop and maintain ETL processes to support the data warehouse on Microsoftware SQL Server
  • Interact with the Customer Support and Professional Services Organizations in the capacity of the Tier 2 support for customers.
  • Provide technical and business guidance for complex user problems
  • Identify and develop tools to assist in the Production Support and Operations team's ability to troubleshoot DB and application related issues.
  • Document Standard Operating Procedures for Production Support/Operations team, as required
  • Provide design assistance to Engineering for new and existing releases
  • Attend weekly Production Support team meetings and participate team building activities


Qualifications:

  • BS in a technical area or 5-7 yrs. Equivalent experience.
  • Intermediate to expert experience of Microsoft SQL server, OLAP datawarehouse environments Beginner to Intermediate understanding of Oracle 9i and 10g RDBMS on Sun Solaris
  • Beginner to Intermediate understanding of Oracle DBA best practices (e.g. schema management and index optimization)
  • Intermediate understanding of SQL Server OLTP and Data Warehouse databases
  • Scripting experience in any standard shell script such as unix shell, c-shel, perl, bournce
  • Windows Batch scripting to automate database administration tasks
  • Microsoft Stored procedure, PL/SQL, SQL Loader and SQL experience
  • Ability to analyze and resolve data issues
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize customer SQL
  • Experience with high availability, 24x7 production environment and terabyte databases a plus
  • Experience with SAN (i.e. EMC), NAS (i.e. NetApp, StorNext), and iSCSI (i.e. Dell Equallogic) a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to work in cross functional environment
  • Experiences with MySQL with replication and/or cluster server a plus
  • Experience with subversion (source control) a plus
  • Must be a Team player with attribute to help as necessary
  • Self-motivate and able to adapt constantly changing environment
